From the sound of the language. Before any vocabulary, you need ears that can tell French from anything else. We spend the first two classes on pronunciation and rhythm, and the words land much faster afterwards.من صوت اللّغة. قبل أيّ مفردات، تحتاج أُذناً تميّز الفرنسيّة عن غيرها. نخصّص أوّل حصّتين للنطق والإيقاع، والمفردات بعدها تثبت أسرع.

A first short conversation: 12 weeks of two classes a week. A real, comfortable B1 conversation: 8–10 months.
